Origins
The early history of Toto which began in 1917, mirrored Japan's rapid economic expansion. In the beginning of its existence, the company manufactured products to meet the demands of modern, contemporary urban housing. It had the first tunnel kilns in the country to produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered automation to allow production control, which helps to increase efficiency and consistency.
In the late 1980s the company began to expand outwards to profit from sales and new markets. It created the Cera Trading Company, importing and distributing other products from other manufacturers to complement its own lines of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy boosted sales and increased the company's global market share.
In the 1990s, Toto began to focus on research and development for water-related appliances. It also improved its distribution system to better meet the needs of customers and boost profits. The company employed the same approach of just-in-time in its supply chain management as well as sales program. This led to a higher level of satisfaction with the customer.
Toto has continued to innovate on the toilet technology. Its latest toilet has a powerful, environmentally-friendly tornado flush. The company also uses recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green procurement policy. Apart from toilets, Toto manufactures bathtubs and faucets and hand dryers that are more efficient in energy use than conventional models.
The first Toto museum opened in the year 2015. It hosts exhibits on the most iconic products of Toto and their evolution, the group companies (all of which are made from ceramics), the history of plumbing, and other products like bath units. In an additional gallery, you can view Toto products that are sold across the world. The museum also has a bathroom that features the WASHLET toilet, as well as other toilet-related innovations.
Before forming Toto, members of the group did session work for many musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro, and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all played on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also performed on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

This song is a mix of folk and distortion AOR which could seem like a complete blunder, but is very effective.

In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in the aftermath of drug-related charges. However, the group continued to perform as a trio with Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.
Toto released Isolation despite the turmoil. It was not as well-liked as IV. However, the group managed to release another chart-topping album in the year 1992 with Kingdom of Desire. The group released a brand new studio album a few months later and then embarked on a tour around the world to promote it.
