Toto's discography includes 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also a few compilations. In addition to releasing original music, Toto has also done collaborations with other artists and on soundtracks for films. The band has received multiple Grammy Awards.
Before Toto was formed The members of the band did session work for other musicians. David Paich, the son of drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all played on Boz Scaggsalbum from 1975 Silk Degrees. The group's collaboration led to formation of Toto in the year 1976.
The band's third album, Turn Back, marked a departure from the more progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for the absence of hit singles. In 1985 the lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group The group held auditions for the new frontman. The band chose guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in the year 1986.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by going through several old tapes and demos to release a special edition called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans, and Toto began an extensive tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
In the course of the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun, drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included live recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the group.
